That same land space should have about 500 pounds of roots, selling for $300 to $600 a pound. Two and three-year-old rootlets can also bring a lot of money your way. So, after six years of growing ginseng, your half-acre ginseng garden could be worth over $100,000. Now, that’s a cash crop worth tending!
Best of all, there is no huge time commitment necessary to start ginseng farming. If you have a few hours a week, you should have enough time to be successful. Your ginseng will need care and attention as it grows. You’ll want to keep an eye out for disease and pest problems. To combat these, only use organic matter, such as yellow sticky traps for pests. To ensure your ginseng grows healthy and strong, stick to only organic matter, such as leaf mold and compost.
You can earn some nice extra cash growing ginseng in your backyard nursery. You don’t need several acres to do it, either. In fact, after six years you can make over $100,000 with just a half-acre of land. You can sell roots after the fifth or sixth year. Plus, you can sell rootlets and seeds after just two years.
